BioMar brings focus to the blue journey towards increased sustainability

That is why some BioMar feeds in our Europe, Middle East & Africa (EMEA) Divisions will now include new sustainability indicators on technical product datasheets. This knowledge will help farmers in their pursuit to reduce negative environmental impacts.

Accelerating performance of marine RAS nurseries

RAS expands towards marine nurseries and this asks for special attention on specific properties of the feed, such as faeces stability. BioMar presents LARVIVA ORBIT, its new aquafeed specially developed for marine RAS nurseries. LARVIVA ORBIT is planned to be available on the market in the first quarter of 2020. From spring 2020, sea bass and sea bream hatcheries will have access to ORBIT feeds specifically designed for prolonging the growth of fry in land-based facilities before transfer to sea cages.

Today, the High Level Panel for A Sustainable Ocean Economy launched their latest report showing that ocean-based climate action can deliver a fifth of the reductions in greenhouse gas emissions required by 2050 to prevent climate change through the 1.5ºC global temperature rise.

BioMar has completed the testing of insect meal in feeds for aquaculture and believe it shows promise as an alternative protein source. This is one among many other novel ingredients like algae oil or single cell proteins that BioMar has been investigating. Representatives from the seafood industry, including BioMar, and conservation groups have agreed to support the creation of marine protected areas, including large no-fishing zones in the Antarctic. The Greenpeace led retailer roundtable event was held in conjunction with their Antarctic 360 event in Cambridge, UK, attended by scientists and Oscar-winning actor Javier Bardem, who joined Greenpeace’s expedition to the Antarctic in January 2018.

Sophisticated hatchery products for demanding fish
